Poles in Australia Index (PAI)
The aim of the Index is to provide Poles, researchers and the
general public with information currently being written about
the Poles in Australia. Much of this information appears as articles
in magazines, newspapers, etc. however the handful of Australian
indexing services manages to capture a miniscule number of articles
which also are biased toward those written in English. The content
in these articles vary as do their depth and target audience however
much time and effort goes into writing them and their citations
should be recorded. As many magazines and newspapers do not index
their own articles, this was another reason why PAI should be
commenced. PAI is not restricted to articles published in Australia
and can include those written overseas as long as it relates to
Poles in Australia.
This Index is provided as a free service to all interested persons
and a donation to cover
some costs would be greatly appreciated.
Articles from Australian and overseas sources on Australian political,
economic, legal, social and cultural affairs of the Poles in Australia.
Sources include magazines, newspapers, scholarly journals, conference
papers, Internet, media transcripts and books in any language
but particularly Polish.
This index is selective rather than comprehensive and aims to
complement other existing services like APAIS [Australian Public
Affairs Information Service]; MAIS [Multicultural Australia &
Immigration Studies Database]; AEI [Australian education Index];
AHRR [Australian Historic Records Register]; AMI [Australasian
Medical Index] to name a few.
The articles, etc. must be of sufficient depth to aid research
into the various Polish communities living in Australia. They
must be about the Poles in Australia.
For inclusion into PAI an article must meet a minimum length:
- Newspaper articles - half page of text
- Magazines, journals - entire article
- Books, conference proceedings - entire chapter
- Internet articles - one screen of information
- Radio/TV transcripts - entire transcript
Items excluded:
- Book reviews
- Articles, transcripts which are frivolous, chatty
- Articles, transcripts promoting forthcoming events
Topics excluded
- Polish communities in Poland or in other countries
