National
Library of Australia |
The Institute signed
an agreement with the National Library of Australia (NLA) allowing
the Institute to formally deposit archival materials relating
to Polish settlement in Australia which would become publicly
available for research purposes.
The Library only has one such collecting partnership with an
ethnic organisation and this precedent is with the Institute.

Through this agreement
the Library accepts collections of manuscript and pictorial material
as well as publications of Australian interest in Polish or English
and undertakes a series of oral history interviews with Polish
Australians. The publications are included into the Australian
print collections and the oral history interviews into the Library's
Oral History collections.
The Library also has a rich collection on Poles in Australia
including the papers of Professor Jerzy Zubrzycki, the records
of the Australian Polish Association of Australia, Polish ethnic
newspapers, Polish immigrant writings, portraits of prominent
Australian Poles, theatre programs of visiting Polish artists
and companies, belles-lettres, electronic websites of Polish organisations,
oral histories. All which complement the Institute's collected
records which prominently feature Polish organisational archives.

Council
of Polish Organisations in the ACT Inc. (Rada Organizacji Polskich
na Australijskie Terytorium Stoleczne) |
The Institute became
a member of the Council of Polish Organisations in the ACT in
March 2003.
Through its membership in the Council, the Institute is
able to collaborate more closely with other Polish organisations
in Australia to encourage them to take care of their organisational
records and preserve them for the future generations.

Polish State Archives |
Personal contacts
have been initiated in 2003 between the Institute and the Polish
State Archives when the Director-General of the Polish State Archives,
Professor Daria Nalecz and her Deputy, Director-General Dr Andrzej
Biernat visited Australia to gauge the level of work being
done regarding Australian Polish archival materials (see
the article with a photograph in the NLA Gateways). The
Polish State Archives, as one of its aims, monitors
the awareness and preservation activities of archival materials
of the Polish diaspora, and provides support in order for the
materials to survive. The resulting partnership brings the two
organisations into close communication, exchanging information
and the Institute briefing the Archives on matters relating to
Polish Australian archives.
