Poles-A-Part

The story of Polish settlement in the Canberra region is one of transformation from refugee, émigré and migrant to Canberra citizen. The fate of Poland and the preservation of cultural identity remains a central concern to the Poles of our region.

Between 1947 and 2001 over 100,000 Poles came to Australia. The 2001 census put the number of the Polish population in Australia at 58,000 and, of these, almost 3,500 Poles called the Canberra region home.

Poles-A-Part is proudly presented by the Polish Historical Institute in Australia and the Canberra Museum and Gallery.
